AutoCAD 21.0 Free For Windows Latest AutoCAD (AP) Get Up and Running In AutoCAD, a 2D (two-dimensional) or 3D (three-dimensional) drawing is represented as a two-dimensional image (a planar, flat drawing), or as a collection of three-dimensional objects (a solid, physical object). Most 3D objects may be modeled with geometric constraints, so that they are closed loops (converging and diverging planes, spheres, and cylinders), open loops (tetrahedrons and triangular prisms), or beams (concrete columns). Because of the geometric constraints, the 3D objects can be manipulated with ease (rotated and moved), and it is easy to change their shape. AutoCAD drawings are generally represented using the 3D (as well as 2D) coordinate system, which is the origin at the coordinate (0,0). The 3D coordinate system is the basis of all other coordinate systems (such as the 1D coordinate system, which is based on the X coordinate axis) in AutoCAD. Diagram by Glenn D. Brown (November 2006) The 2D coordinate system is based on the XY plane (2D). 2D drawings are often the default type of drawings for architects and engineers. The 2D coordinate system is the basis of all other 2D coordinate systems (such as the 1D coordinate system). Diagram by Glenn D. Brown (November 2006) In contrast, a drawing in which 3D objects are manipulated is called a 3D (3-dimensional) drawing, and a drawing that uses 3D coordinate values is called a 3D drawing. All AutoCAD drawings can be viewed from all three axis (X, Y, and Z). As you rotate the axis, you see various combinations of the planes (XY, XZ, YZ, and XYZ). These planes are the basis of the plane of projection. Diagram by Glenn D. Brown (November 2006) When a 3D drawing is displayed, you can choose different viewpoints for the user to see from (the perspective and level of the drawing). The viewing options include orthographic (true perspective), planar (2D), and isometric (3D) viewpoints. In AutoCAD, orthographic, planar, and isometric viewpoints are the only viewing options for 2D drawings, and only the isometric viewpoint is available for 3D drawings. The perspective AutoCAD 21.0 Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) support for AutoCAD is available on Windows Vista and later, Windows Server 2008 and later and Windows 7. Other newer and older versions of Windows have third-party implementations. Reception AutoCAD 2009 received awards from several magazines and review websites. It was awarded Editor's Choice and Editor's Top Pick from PC World. It was named Editors' Choice at Hardware Zone. In 2009, it was also awarded Editor's Choice by PC Magazine. Windows Vista received mostly positive reviews. The operating system was given a 7.2 by a reviewer at Computer Shopper. It was given a 7.8 out of 10 by a reviewer at the New York Times. Reviews at eWeek and The Register both stated that the software required a "learning curve". Both reviewers disliked the user interface and the new "floating toolbar" feature. However, the overall opinion of both was that the user interface is intuitive and easy to use. The review at CNET pointed out some limitations of the new graphical user interface, in particular that a zoom function had not been implemented and that the "floating toolbars" took up a lot of screen real estate. Reviews at the review site Notes from the Field praised the fact that the "floating toolbars" work well and are intuitive. However, the review also stated that the "floating toolbars" are a "pain" because of their size and their tendency to come up unexpectedly, and that the layout of the toolbars and the general menu structure is unintuitive and somewhat confusing. The review at Ubergizmo stated that the "floating toolbars" take up a lot of screen real estate. The review also stated that the new layout is confusing because the items that are in the floating toolbar are not arranged in a logical order and many of them require navigating through an unintuitive tree-like menu structure. The review also pointed out that the layout of the floating toolbars is similar to that of the main menu, which was seen as being confusing. More precise and focused drafting on even complex drawings than before. The new Drafting workspaces take you to a more dynamic drafting experience and are designed to help you create high-quality drawing files efficiently. (video: 1:27 min.) Drafting Direct: AutoCAD’s existing Drafting ribbon has been replaced by Drafting Direct. It is now easier to do professional-level work with one hand. Using the Drafting Direct ribbon, you can control drawing functionality directly from the ribbon without having to use menus, toolbars, and other interface elements. (video: 2:30 min.) Drafting Grid: The new Drafting grid has been redesigned to provide the following new benefits: Enhanced Drafting measurements. Now you can more easily make precision measurements in a drawing, including measurements to feet and inches, e.g. “0.1” as one decimal place. (video: 3:14 min.) Copy drawings. Copy grid objects and save them as copies. (video: 3:57 min.) Easy copy and paste. Save time by quickly copying and pasting objects to get exactly where you want them. (video: 3:51 min.) When you select Copy as Drafting option in the ribbon, you are taken to a new Drafting Drawings Workspace. Here you can select the Grid Pattern you want to use, or you can begin drawing. When you are done, you are returned to your drawing and you have all of the Grid objects that you copied. Design Review: You can now work within a Design Review, showing users a new version of a drawing while it is being discussed and improved. The Design Review gets updates as you review your drawings. (video: 2:32 min.) Drafting Layer Manager: You can now activate and deactivate Drafting layers for one or more drawings. You can also make it easy to edit a Drafting Layer, such as invert or change a layer’s color. (video: 2:25 min.) Tunneling: You can now easily toggle between a standard tunnel (hole) and a non-standard tunnel (ring). You can specify different thickness and materials for a non-standard tunnel. (video: 2:23 min.)
